Persons 65 years of age and older are the fastest growing population segment in Sunnyvale.  This population of residents has increased by 22 percent as compared to an overall population increase of 11 percent. The population of older adults is projected to grow over the next decade as many of the “baby boomers” (the large group of people born between 1946 and 1964) will have reached age 65 by 2023.  Historically, individuals in this age group were considered to be of retirement age.  While still eligible to retire, many have not due to the high cost of housing.

NOVAWorks will share with us the services they provide to place workers in this age group, how many they have placed and their average salary.

Lifelong Learning:
Are you interested in life-long learning?  If so, join us to hear about programs offered at the Sunnyvale Library as well as classes through Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) Adult School.  This is also a great way to stay connected with community and expand your knowledge all at the same time!

Speakers:

Jennifer Cheyer, Sr. Manager of Workforce Development at NOVAworks has over 15 years of experience in workforce development including career advising, training and development, and creating innovative programs that connect the silicon valley workforce to local employers.

Lori Riehl has been the Principal of FUHSD Adult School for 5 years. This is her 15th year as an administrator in FUHSD: she was previously an Assistant Principal at Fremont High School and the district’s Coordinator of Pathways to Postsecondary Success. She has collaborated with NOVAWorks to bring industry partners to Fremont’s Auto Tech program and support adult learners to access the Adult School’s CTE programs.

Andy Paul has worked in Bay Area libraries for over two decades. He obtained his master’s in library and Information Science from San José State University in 2022 and is one of the adult service librarians at the Sunnyvale Library. Andy regularly helps patrons access career and technology related resources both in and outside of the library.
