Board Members:

Angela Rausch – Chair

Angela began her professional career in healthcare as a pharmacist.  Moving to California almost twenty years ago she worked and volunteered at RotaCare Free Clinic in Mountain View until it closed.  She started in local politics by serving two terms on the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Commission in Sunnyvale.  She is also an active member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society which helps residents with immediate housing and food needs.  She is currently participating in the program Leadership Sunnyvale. She has three children with her husband Kris.  She delights in biking, running, walking, reading and baking.

Agnes Veith – Vice Chair

Agnes has lived in Sunnyvale for over twenty-five years where she and her husband Don raised their two children. They are now proud grandparents and parents to their rescue dog, Harriet. Agnes was born and raised in San Francisco, graduated from Berkeley and retired from Stanford in 2019. She has been a member of Livable Sunnyvale since 2019, is a Sunnyvale Arts Commissioner, a 2023 Leadership Sunnyvale graduate and a Santa Clara County Master Gardener.   Spending time with her children, taking road trips and photography are some of her favorite things to do.

Gail Rubino

Gail is a professional product and project manager in the financial services/payment area. She has been active in local and national politics for many years. She served as a lobbyist for the National Retail Federation and managed efforts with many stakeholders to pass major consumer credit laws including the Federal Debt Collection Act, the Fair Credit Report Act, and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.

Gail has served on the Board since it was founded. She is a graduate of the 2021 Leadership Sunnyvale. She served on the City of Sunnyvale Redistricting Commission and was a member of the Mobile Home Resident Stakeholder Group that produced the Mobile Home Memorandum of Understanding in 2021.

Gail is a second-generation San Franciscan and attended San Francisco Public Schools. She has a BA in History and Rhetoric from the University of California, Davis, and an MBA from Fordham University in New York City. She was an adjunct professor at UC Berkeley and California State University, East Bay and taught at Mission College, Santa Clara. She resides in a Mobile Home Park in Sunnyvale. Her other interests include reading, and movies, and is an avid Star Wars fan.

Julia Liu

(Treasurer, former board member)

Julia and her husband have lived in Sunnyvale for almost 40 years where they raised two children who attended local public schools.

Julia has an MS in EECS from UC Berkeley and worked in corporate high tech for 23 years before working for 15 years for a Bay Area education nonprofit, as operations director.

Prior to Livable Sunnyvale, Julia’s nonprofit board experience included: Sunnyvale AYSO, Homestead High School Music Boosters, a contemporary dance company and a ballet school. Julia is a graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale.

Angus Liu

Software engineer by day, political advocate by night. Lived in the Bay Area since 2017 and has been complaining about high rents ever since. Active member of the YIMBY movement

Leia Mehlman

An advanced practice (CCRN, OCN) RN for 20 years; at present Leia is a consultant in the areas of Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
She also holds a Masters Degree in Forensic Science.
Leia grew up in Bucks County Pennsylvania surrounded by cows. Wisely, she moved to California in 1998, and to Sunnyvale in 2006, where she resides in one of the mobile home parks near Tasman with her (at present count) five cats, three sewing machines, two sergers, six bicycles, two Italian scooters and one SUV.
As a nurse she has been a member of the Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team for various disasters. She has been on the Sunnyvale Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission since 2018 and currently serves as its Chairperson.
She joined Livable Sunnyvale in 2018. She joined the Sunnyvale Democratic Club in 2019 and is presently serving as the Membership Director. She unsuccessfully ran for the District 6 Sunnyvale City Council seat in the 2020 election.
Leia is a 2021 graduate of the Leadership Sunnyvale curriculum.
She volunteers her musical talents each year as a Victorian Caroler to raise money for the Lyric Opera of San Jose.
Leia has many craft interests, and loves horses, dogs, non-venomous snakes, chickens and crows.

Mike Serrone

Mike has been a long time program manager and RF design engineer at several high tech companies, retiring in 2021. He has been been active in local politics for many years as a board member and former president of the Sunnyvale Democratic Club. In 2015, the Sunnyvale Democratic Club Affordable Housing Committee became an independent non-partisan organization advocating for housing, transportation and sustainability policies. Mike has served on the Board since it was founded. He is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale and currently serves on the Sunnyvale Planning Commission.

Mike was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, has a BS in Physics and an MSEE. He has lived in Sunnyvale with his wife, Sue, since 1982 where they raised their two daughters. His interests include music, art and various volunteer activities.

Chuck Fraleigh – Vice Chair

Chuck was a software engineer and executive before taking time off to 
become a stay-at-home dad. He now spends his time volunteering for his sons’ sports teams, scout troop, and school organizations and working with Livable Sunnyvale to make Sunnyvale a more affordable place to live.

Paulina Zapata

Paulina was born in Colombia and raised in Spain. She holds two master’s degrees in international law and international relations. She worked as a journalist in Spain before relocating to the USA. She’s been living in Sunnyvale for two years. Paulina is a 2023 Leadership Sunnyvale graduate and currently serves on the Sunnyvale Human Relations Commission. She manages the Sunnyvale Community Services’ Community Leader Program, which empowers people to speak up for what’s right in their local neighborhoods.
