The City of Sunnyvale is currently leading a process to update its El Camino Real Corridor Specific Plan. The plan area includes approximately 350 acres along the four miles of El Camino Real, a key regional connector and the most utilized multi-modal corridor in Sunnyvale.

This planning process presents an opportunity to advocate for land use policies that will address our region’s housing crisis by encouraging the creation of homes that are within reach for households of all income levels, including low-income residents who struggle to afford Sunnyvale’s median rent of over $3,500 per month.

SSALC is recommending that the City Council select the “housing-focused” alternative, which could allow up to 5,100 new homes along the corridor, and calling for a significant share of those homes to be affordable to low-income residents to ensure that the El Camino Real becomes a thriving and attractive corridor for all. On September 13th, the City Council will host a study session on the vision and land use alternatives for the El Camino Real Corridor Specific Plan. Save the date for this study session and stay tuned for more details!
