Caltrain 2040 Vision – Redwood City March 20

On March 20 in Redwood City Friends of Caltrain is hosting a presentation on Caltrain’s 2040 Vision at Redwood City City Hall. The presentation will cover an exciting vision of the future showing how Caltrain could reach 250,000 daily trips by 2040 with up to 5-minute service at top station. The increase would be the equivalent of double-decking the 101 freeway

These improvements will depend on decisions made in a visionary business plan that the Caltrain board will decide on this year.  Come learn about the Caltrain business plan from the transportation and policy experts at the forefront of the effort, and learn how you can add your voice and help this happen.

General Meeting – January 9th: Downtown Sunnyvale Update and CASA

Our first item for Wednesday’s meeting will be an update on Downtown Sunnyvale developments from Travis Duncan of CityLine. Between the ongoing construction of Whole Foods and the recently announced closing of Macy’s, there will be a lot to talk about.

Next we will discuss the CASA Compact. CASA is a ten point plan developed by MTC and ABAG (the Association of Bay Area Governments) to solve the housing crisis, and is based on three pillars: protecting tenants, preserving existing affordable housing, and producing new housing. The Compact passed the CASA steering committee 14-3 last month, and now goes to the ABAG executive committee, who will be voting on CASA at their next meeting on January 17. The proposal has generated a lot of controversy, but it’s the only systemic, region-wide attempt on the table right now to actually solve the housing crisis.

Sunnyvale Mayor Glenn Hendricks will be there to talk about why he opposes CASA. We will also find out why many advocacy organizations are supporting it.

The meeting is January 9th, 6:30pm at Toyota Sunnyvale, 898 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale. The meeting is in the 2nd floor conference room. Meetings are open to the public, everyone is welcome to attend.
