General Meeting December 5th – House Sharing and Study Issues

At our December meeting we will focus on available housing in existing homes. This is affordable housing that could be available immediately. San Mateo County has an excellent home sharing program from Hip Housing.  Catholic Charities operates a House Sharing Program for Santa Clara County.

Susan Castillo, Program Manager for the Catholic Charities House Sharing Program, will talk about their program and answer questions.

For our second topic: This is Study Issue season in Sunnyvale when all of the Study Issues proposed in the past year gather together and compete to see which ones will be approved for 2019. Council Member Jim Griffith will explain this process and take questions.

The meeting will be December 5th, 6:30pm, at Toyota Sunnyvale, 898 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale. The meeting is in the 2nd floor conference room. Meetings are open to the public, everyone is welcome to attend.

Project Sentinel – Tenants’ Rights and Responsibilities

Livable Sunnyvale’s General Meeting on October 17th will feature Paul Hebert and Tom Skinner from Project Sentinel, a non-profit organization. that assists individuals with housing problems such as discrimination, mortgage foreclosure & delinquency, rental issues including repairs, deposits, privacy, dispute resolution, home buyer education, post purchase education and reverse mortgages.

Paul Hebert has been with Project Sentinel for 5 years and is very knowledgeable about tenant/landlord law. Tom Skinner is a staff attorney on the fair housing side of Project Sentinel and he will speak to how their department looks at housing differently than tenant/landlord.

We will also get an update on Block 15, a proposed affordable housing development at Mathilda and Iowa in Sunnyvale.

And finally, we will have brief discussions on Proposition 10: Repeal Costa Hawkins, and Proposition 3: Water Bond, then vote to endorse (or not) these propositions. These are both complicated propositions, so we recommend researching the pros and cons before the meeting.

The meeting is on October 17th, 6:30 pm at Toyota Sunnyvale, 898 W. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale.
